"John Rarig was born in Germany about 1775. He came to America about 1802 settling in Pennsylvania. He married Mary Ann Rarig and they were the parents of seven children. Information on many of their descendants who continued to live in Pennsylvania and elsewhere in 1935 is given in this volume."

"John Rarig had seven children, and one chapter is devoted to each child. The first chapter discusses John Rarig the Immigrant, the second chapter discusses the Rarig Family, and the next seven chapters discuss his children. These seven chapters are divided into two parts, in which Part One contains the biographies of the older people, and Part Two deals with the genealogical records.

"All the data in the genealogical records is arranged according to age; the oldest being given first, the youngest last, and the plan is followed throughout the seven generations. The first four generations of Rarigs are shown in THIS TYPE, while the last three generations are shown in This Type. An offset to the right after the fourth generation indicates the next generation. All children are numbered 1, 2, 3, etc., and the extra number to the left, at the head of each list, indicates the generation, counting John Rarig as the first."
